About the role#
This internship is a 10-week summer program based in Charlotte, North Carolina. You will work within the merchandising department to gain experience in a large department store environment. The role involves shadowing buyers and assistant buyers to understand how they manage business operations, vendor relations, and customer needs. You will participate in professional development workshops and gain exposure to senior leadership throughout the summer.
What you'll do#
- Manage aspects of a multi-million-dollar business to drive department profitability.
- Shop the retail market to identify trends, assortment gaps, and pricing opportunities.
- Prepare materials for merchant line reviews.
- Recap and communicate style placement to vendors, agents, and cross-functional teams.
- Generate reports and analyze business results to support team objectives.
- Assist cross-functional teams by acquiring samples and developing item descriptions.
- Present selling recaps to managers regarding best and worst-selling products.
What you'll need#
- You must be a rising college senior graduating in December 2026 or Spring 2027.
- Preferred majors include Apparel Merchandising, Fashion Merchandising, Retail Management, or Marketing Analytics.
- A GPA of 3.2 or higher is preferred.
- You must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Proficiency in Excel and MS Office is required, specifically with formulas, functions, and reporting.
- You should demonstrate critical thinking, initiative, and the ability to balance creativity with data-driven decisions.
- Previous retail experience and familiarity with retail systems like JDA, ERAM, or S5 are considered a plus.
- A strong understanding of retail math and terminology is preferred.
