About the role#
The Assistant Director of Student Engagement & Governance provides leadership for student organization development, engagement initiatives, and leadership education within Student Activities. This position oversees the student organization event approval process, new organization chartering, and signature engagement initiatives. The role focuses on fostering involvement opportunities that promote student belonging, leadership development, and organizational success while contributing to the strategic advancement of the department.
What you'll do#
- Provide leadership and oversight for the student organization experience, including management of the event approval process, organizational compliance, policy implementation, and risk management education.
- Manage the chartering process for new student organizations from initial inquiry through university recognition.
- Advise student leaders on organizational development, governance structures, constitutions, and sustainability planning.
- Develop and implement leadership development programs, officer training initiatives, and educational opportunities to strengthen student leadership capacity.
- Coordinate and assess engagement initiatives that foster student involvement and growth, including Late Night programming.
- Supervise assigned professional and graduate staff, providing mentorship, performance management, and professional development.
- Collaborate with campus partners to create meaningful involvement opportunities and contribute to departmental strategic planning and process improvement.
What you'll need#
- A Master’s degree.
- Three years of relevant work experience.
- Supervisory experience.
- Relevant academic background in fields such as Business Administration, Psychology, Political Science, or Sociology.
- Ability to comply with university policies and maintain regular, punctual attendance.
