About the role#
The Science STEM Intern provides administrative, laboratory, and classroom support to faculty and staff. This position offers hands-on experience in various STEM fields and involves community outreach through youth programs. The role is funded by the NASA Building Bridges Grant and averages 10 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Prepare documents for lab procedures, handouts, and exams.
- Organize lab materials and equipment.
- Maintain clean and safe laboratory environments.
- Wash and restock glassware and other supplies.
- Assist faculty with setting up demonstrations and experiments.
- Organize youth activities for Boys and Girls Club Teen Nights and STEM Summer Camp.
- Install and test STEM equipment, including weather stations, underwater ROVs, and VR programming.
- Handle all information according to FERPA confidentiality standards.
What you'll need#
- Must be a degree-seeking student at Bay Mills Community College.
- Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Successful completion of 67% of credits attempted.
- Enrolled in at least 6 credits for the Fall 2026 semester.
- Attendance of 70% or higher in all classes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and basic office equipment.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work with various chemicals and biological materials.
- Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds and needs.
