About the role#
As a software engineering intern, you will build BaseOS, the operating system that runs our power company. You will ship code that runs on batteries in over 15,000 homes and powers the algorithms that balance energy markets in real time. You will work in the same codebase as our full-time engineers, contributing to systems that manage hardware, fleet deployment, and member energy control.
What you'll do#
- Design, build, and deploy production-grade software across the stack, ranging from embedded firmware to backend infrastructure and member-facing products.
- Write code that operates under real-world conditions where failures carry physical consequences.
- Contribute to internal tools that support market expansion and automate operational workflows.
- Partner with hardware, deployment, and operations teams to solve interdisciplinary problems that span software and the physical world.
What you'll need#
- A strong foundation in software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and systems design.
- A demonstrated ability to build and ship working software through side projects, coursework, or prior internships.
- Clear and concise communication skills.
- A builder's mindset, characterized by curiosity and a self-directed approach to solving problems.
- Current pursuit of a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.

- This is an on-site role based in Austin, Texas.
- The position is a full-time, paid internship with rolling start dates.
