    About the role#

    This PhD internship provides an opportunity to advance your dissertation research while applying your expertise to real-world economic and financial challenges. Interns work on projects that support policy development across core functions, including monetary policy, the financial system, currency, funds management, and retail payment supervision. The role involves a balance of independent research and collaborative project work, tailored to align with your academic development and the Bank's priorities.

    What you'll do#

    • Advance your dissertation research and promote your findings across the organization.
    • Contribute to research and projects that support analysis and policy development.
    • Analyze complex economic and financial issues using empirical methods and modeling techniques.
    • Collaborate with internal and external peers, including Bank researchers and visiting experts, to exchange ideas and analytical approaches.
    • Contribute to ongoing research projects that address key central bank priorities.

    What you'll need#

    • Must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident.
    • Currently enrolled in a PhD program, having passed comprehensive examinations and in good standing.
    • Academic focus or interest in areas such as Macroeconomics, Monetary Economics, Banking and Payment Systems, International Economics, Financial Economics, or Quantitative Methods.
    • Exceptional research, analytical, and written communication skills.
    • Adaptability to new ways of working, including the use of AI and new technologies.
    • Experience presenting research at conferences, events, or meetings.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Ottawa, Ontario.
    • Work Modality: Hybrid. Employees are expected on-site at least eight days per month, though 100% remote work is available for those living outside a reasonable commuting distance of the office.
    • Term: Rolling, up to four months.
    • Compensation: $6,532 per month.
    • Status: Full-time, paid internship.
    • Requirements: Must be eligible to obtain Reliability security clearance.
