About the role#
AtkinsRéalis is hiring an ITS/Traffic Engineering Intern for our Raleigh, North Carolina office for the Summer 2027 term. This is a paid, part-time, on-site position.
What you'll do#
- Design and develop plans and drawings, including preliminary layouts and final drawings.
- Work on traffic signal design, fiber optic communications cable routing and splicing, utility coordination, and signing and striping.
- Conduct traffic safety studies and perform field observations of construction.
- Organize and conduct ITS and traffic engineering investigations, planning, and analysis.
- Prepare technical reports and write miscellaneous reports.
- Research the feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, regulatory specifications, and emerging technologies.
- Contribute to the development of specifications and permit applications.
- Prepare preliminary man-hour, cost, and material quantity estimates.
- Participate in quality control checks, including reviewing computations, reports, and designs.
- Coordinate with other disciplines as needed.
What you'll need#
- Completed 60 hours towards a civil engineering degree from an ABET accredited program by Summer 2027.
- Currently enrolled in an Associate's or Bachelor's degree program in a related technical field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills for data entry.
- Math skills to perform simple calculations.
- A willingness to learn.
- Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation is preferred.
