About the role#
AtkinsRéalis is hiring a Building Mechanical Engineering Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This paid internship offers hands-on experience in the A/E design process, ranging from initial project concepts through final construction. You will work alongside experienced professionals to gain an understanding of engineering practices that protect public health, safety, and welfare.
What you'll do#
- Apply engineering principles and calculations to design HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Suppression systems.
- Use REVIT to incorporate ductwork, piping, plumbing, and fire protection layouts into 3D building models.
- Research HVAC and Plumbing equipment and systems for commercial and industrial buildings.
- Participate in construction observations and field investigations.
- Assist with construction administration documentation.
- Collaborate with project team members, including architects, structural engineers, and electrical engineers.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least 60 hours toward a Mechanical Engineering degree from an ABET accredited program by the start of the internship.
- Basic computer skills for data entry into spreadsheets or databases.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Basic proficiency with AutoCAD or REVIT is preferred.

- This is an on-site position located in Lansing, Michigan or Grand Rapids, Michigan.
- This role is part-time.
