About the role#
Astranis is looking for a Thermal Intern for the Winter 2027 term. This is a full-time, paid, on-site role based in San Francisco. You will join our engineering team to work on satellite hardware and software. Interns at Astranis take on meaningful projects and contribute to hardware that goes to space.
What you'll do#
- Design, evaluate, build, and test satellite hardware and software.
- Perform thermal analysis, from simplified to detailed, on hardware including propulsion components, batteries, electronics, RF components, mechanisms, and PCBs.
- Support design trades that balance performance margins, resource use, risk, cost, and schedule.
- Design, procure, and test thermal solutions like heaters, heat pipes, thermal interface materials, and surface coatings.
- Develop integration and assembly procedures to ensure thermal design intent is met.
- Work with the integration and test team to install thermal hardware.
- Plan and run thermal vacuum testing at the component and spacecraft level.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, or mathematics.
- Demonstrated ability to personally design, build, and test hardware from scratch.
- Enthusiasm for hands-on hardware development.
- US Citizenship or Green Card status.
