About the role#
As a Radiation Effects Engineer Intern, you will assist in the modeling, analysis, and electrical testing of spacecraft hardware. You will characterize electrical component degradation and execute hardware testing at laboratories across the United States. This role involves working on fault-tolerant systems and supporting radiation testing campaigns to up-screen components for TID and SEE.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate and electrically test fault-tolerant electrical systems in radiation environments.
- Assist in creating electrical test plans, developing test fixtures, and documenting results.
- Practice efficient issue diagnosis and draft clear technical documentation.
- Support radiation testing campaigns, focusing on electrical parametric characterization.
- Collaborate across teams to provide input on radiation considerations.
- Support early-stage activities including breadboarding circuits, verifying automated test setups, and fabricating cable harnesses.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and source meter units.
- Experience with Altium Designer or similar PCB design software for schematic capture and layout.
- Demonstrated ability to design, build, and test electrical hardware from scratch.
- Familiarity with the space radiation environment and effects on semiconductor devices.
- Experience with SPICE-based simulators like LTSpice, PSPICE, or ADS.
- Ability to perform soldering, rework, and specialized test harness construction.
- Knowledge of fundamental electronics components and benchmarking performance.
- Experience with radiation transport software such as FastRAD, Novice, or MCNPX.
