About the role#
Astranis is looking for a Mechanical Engineer Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, on-site role based in San Francisco. You will join our engineering team to work on satellite hardware and software. Internships typically last for twelve weeks.
What you'll do#
- Design, evaluate, procure, assemble, and test structures, bracketry, and mechanisms for our spacecraft.
- Work with composite and metallic parts using various manufacturing techniques.
- Perform mechanical and thermal analysis for spacecraft systems.
- Integrate parts and systems into the spacecraft alongside the rest of the team.
- Document and develop procedures to improve future build processes.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a B.S. in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, or an equivalent technical degree.
- A demonstrated ability to personally design, build, and test hardware from scratch.
- Enthusiasm for hardware development.
- Bonus points for experience with CAD or analytical software like stress or thermal analysis.
- Bonus points for experience with electromechanical system design and control system modeling.

- Compensation: $29.00 per hour.
- Requirements: This position requires U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or refugee/asylee status to comply with U.S. government space technology export regulations.
