About the role#
As an Antenna Intern, you will join our team for a twelve-week period during the Winter 2027 term. You will work alongside mechanical, thermal, and payload system engineers to design, build, and test antenna systems for our current and next-generation satellite payloads. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in San Francisco.
What you'll do#
- Design and build high-performance communications antenna systems.
- Work with vendors to procure antenna and RF components.
- Validate component performance through anechoic chamber testing.
- Collaborate with mechanical, structural, and thermal engineers to co-design antenna components and systems.
What you'll need#
- A fundamental understanding of electromagnetics, including antenna theory, impedance matching, transmission lines, and circuit matching.
- Practical experience using vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and signal sources.
- Proficiency with design tools such as CST, HFSS, or TICRA.
- Ability to use Matlab or Python for engineering scripting and problem solving.
- A creative approach to solving engineering challenges.
- Preferred experience includes 3D printing (DMLS or FDM), link budget and system calculations (EIRP, noise figure, G/T), waveguide component design (OMT, MUX, diplexers, filters, polarizers), and reflector design.
