About the role#
The ASPCA is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Student Representative at the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. This role serves as a primary connection between the organization and the student body. You will act as a resource for your peers, promote awareness of ASPCA initiatives, and assist in the coordination of campus events. This position is designed for students who are passionate about animal welfare and wish to develop leadership and advocacy skills while maintaining their academic focus.
What you'll do#
- Serve as the dedicated representative of the ASPCA at Ross University.
- Build and nurture relationships with fellow students and campus organizations.
- Act as a resource for students interested in ASPCA work, externship opportunities, and career pathways.
- Assist in the logistical planning and execution of campus events, including conferences, workshops, and presentations.
- Develop written communications to promote upcoming events and organizational opportunities.
- Stay informed about all student externship resources and act as a liaison to the ASPCA Director of Campus Relations.
- Maintain academic excellence and adhere to all school policies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a veterinary student at the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, with preference given to those in their 2nd through 6th semesters.
- Good academic standing.
- Strong belief in the Mission and Core Values of the ASPCA.
- High level of maturity and professionalism.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter.
- Ability to dedicate an average of 3 hours per week during the semester.
- Active membership in at least one student group related to shelter medicine, animal welfare, or related fields.
- Must not currently serve as a student representative for another animal welfare organization or company.
- Access to a computer for virtual meetings and email correspondence.
- Ability to temporarily store informational and promotional materials for campus distribution.
Location & details#
- This is a remote position.
- The role is paid at $20 per hour, with an average commitment of 3 hours per week.
- The duration is two semesters, with the potential to extend.
- Selected representatives are eligible for up to $1,000 in reimbursement for travel, lodging, and food costs when attending the annual SAVMA Symposium.
