About the role#
The Engineering Intern for Operations Strategy helps research, design, and develop capacity and demand planning models. You will focus on improving forecasting, costing, and operational efficiencies for ABF Freight. This is a part-time, paid summer internship running from May or June 2027 through August 2027.
What you'll do#
- Learn how company assets like equipment, labor, technology, and facilities relate to business levels.
- Build mathematical models to provide guidance on network capacity and demand trends.
- Research new technologies, methods, and equipment to improve efficiency and lower costs.
- Support the shipment level costing model by understanding inputs and methodologies.
- Evaluate measurement systems to improve processes and procedures.
- Apply Lean Six Sigma tools and technology to business cases.
- Complete ad-hoc analytics projects as requested.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an engineering or equivalent technical degree program.
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and SQL.
- A solid grasp of engineering principles and statistical concepts.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, solve problems, and adapt to changing needs.
- Strong initiative and interpersonal skills.
Location & details#
- Location: Fort Smith, Arkansas (On-site).
- Schedule: Part-time, averaging fewer than 30 hours per week, typically between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
- Travel: Minimal travel (0-25%) may be required.
- Sponsorship: Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Sponsorship is not provided for this role.
