About the role#
The Chemistry Laboratory Intern supports the regional laboratory team with analytical testing, sample preparation, and data management. You will work under the guidance of experienced Chemists and report to the Regional Lab Manager. This role offers hands-on experience with oilfield production chemistry, laboratory instrumentation, quality systems, and field sampling. You will assist with routine functions while building technical skills in an industrial setting.
What you'll do#
- Assist Chemists with routine and non-routine analytical testing.
- Prepare samples, standards, reagents, and laboratory materials.
- Receive, label, log, and track laboratory samples.
- Perform routine housekeeping to keep work areas clean and organized.
- Operate laboratory instrumentation under supervision.
- Collect and enter analytical data into databases and reporting systems.
- Support quality assurance and quality control activities.
- Manage laboratory inventory, chemical stocking, and supply organization.
- Participate in field sampling activities under supervision.
- Observe instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
- Assist with process improvement initiatives and special projects.
- Follow all safety policies, laboratory procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Support administrative tasks and participate in technical training.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Science.
- Completion of introductory chemistry laboratory coursework.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory safety practices and chemical handling.
- Strong interest in analytical chemistry and oilfield production chemistry.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures and safety requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate work.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and climb stairs.
- Previous academic, internship, or research laboratory experience is preferred.
- Experience using analytical instrumentation and scientific data management is a plus.
