About the role#
Join our Chicago-based team for a 10-week summer internship focused on risk advisory, consulting, and analytics. You will work alongside experienced analysts and consultants on real client engagements, including enterprise risk management (ERM), climate and catastrophe risk modeling, and actuarial analysis. This program offers hands-on experience, one-on-one mentoring, and formal training to help you turn complex data into clear insights for clients.
What you'll do#
- Support ERM engagements by assisting with risk assessments, risk registers, and framework development.
- Help with climate and catastrophe risk analysis, including gathering location data and reviewing model results for reasonableness.
- Build charts, dashboards, and maps to communicate data insights.
- Clean, organize, and check data from clients and internal sources.
- Research industry trends, peer practices, and emerging climate risks, and summarize findings for the team.
- Draft slides, report sections, and talking points for client presentations.
- Join client and internal meetings to take notes and follow up on action items.
- Collaborate on a team project to present at the end of the summer.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in risk management, environmental science, sustainability, atmospheric science, meteorology, geography, GIS, data visualization, statistics, actuarial science, mathematics, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with comfort working with data.
- Clear writing and speaking skills, including the ability to explain technical ideas in plain language.
- Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to manage several tasks at once and meet deadlines.
- A collaborative, curious approach and dedication to client service.
- Preferred: Experience with data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau, or familiarity with Python, R, SQL, or QGIS.
- Preferred: Coursework or projects in climate science, data visualization, or risk management, and prior experience through internships, case competitions, or student organizations.
