About the role#
Ancestry is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer Co-op to join our team for the Summer 2027 term. This is a part-time, work-study role for students currently enrolled in master's or PhD programs. You will work with our team to build, deploy, and optimize machine learning models and large language models that support our platform features and internal workflows.
What you'll do#
- Develop and deploy machine learning and large language models.
- Build and optimize AI agents to improve automation and decision-making.
- Improve model inference speed, storage efficiency, and system scalability.
- Create pipelines and MLOps workflows for model training, evaluation, and deployment.
- Contribute to our evaluation and monitoring platforms for ML, LLMs, and agents.
- Experiment with new technologies in the ML, LLM, and agent spaces.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an advanced degree program, such as a Master's or PhD, in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Linguistics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- Proficiency in Python and experience with libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn.
- Experience with GenAI, LLMs, and agentic frameworks such as LangChain or AutoGen.
- Experience with cloud platforms and tools for ML development and deployment.
- Ability to write clean, efficient, and scalable code.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Curiosity and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Familiarity with Node.js or Java is a plus.
- Bonus points for experience with LLM fine-tuning, RAG, vector databases (FAISS, Pinecone, OpenSearch), LLM optimization, VLLM, the HuggingFace library, or reinforcement learning.
