About the role#
The AI and Advanced Mathematical Modeling team explores how machine learning advances supply chain planning. As an AI/ML Research Intern, you will investigate research questions in time-series modeling and generative AI. You will work alongside experienced researchers and engineers to evaluate how emerging methods create value in real-world supply chain applications. You will be paired with a dedicated mentor for guidance throughout the term.
What you'll do#
- Conduct applied research in machine learning, focusing on time-series forecasting and generative AI for supply chain planning.
- Review literature, identify methods, and formulate research hypotheses.
- Design and run reproducible experiments using real-world and benchmark datasets.
- Develop and evaluate models against strong baselines using quantitative and qualitative metrics.
- Analyze results, robustness, and practical trade-offs.
- Build research prototypes and communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborate with researchers, data scientists, and domain experts.
- Contribute to technical reports, demonstrations, publications, and patent applications.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or recent graduation from a master's or PhD program in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, or a related field.
- Strong foundation in machine learning, statistics, and experimental methodology.
- Hands-on research experience through graduate work, publications, or substantial projects.
- Proficiency in Python and modern machine learning frameworks.
- Ability to translate open-ended problems into testable hypotheses.
- Clear communication skills for technical ideas.
Preferred qualifications include research experience in time-series forecasting, generative AI (including LLMs and RAG), statistical inference, uncertainty quantification, and foundation model evaluation.
Location & details#
- Term: Winter 2027 (8 or 12 months, starting January 2027).
- Modality: Hybrid or Remote. Employees in Ottawa or Toronto must work from the office at least three days per week. All candidates must be located in the Eastern time zone.
- Status: Full-time, paid position.
