About the role#
The Manufacturing Capabilities team supports the processes and tools that help over 700 employees work safely and effectively. This internship explores how AI can improve the daily experience of frontline staff. You will work directly with leaders and production teams to identify practical ways to improve productivity and decision-making. Projects are visible and aim to deliver real business impact within the manufacturing organization.
What you'll do#
- Spend time with frontline employees, leaders, and support teams to understand manufacturing operations.
- Identify opportunities where AI can simplify work, improve information access, or reduce manual effort.
- Partner with stakeholders to evaluate AI use cases and prioritize them based on business impact.
- Develop, test, and refine AI-enabled tools, workflows, prompt libraries, or pilot solutions.
- Gather feedback from end users to understand adoption challenges and improve usability.
- Present findings and recommendations to manufacturing leadership.
What you'll need#
- Undergraduate student who has completed freshman, sophomore, or junior year by the start of the internship.
- Anticipated graduation date between August 2027 and April 2030.
- Pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Data Science, or Computer Science.
- Experience using AI tools like Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience with data visualization tools like Power BI.
- Ability to analyze information and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Prior experience with data analysis, reporting, or process improvement projects.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
- The role is based in Ada, Michigan.
- Work is on-site Monday through Thursday, with Friday as a remote-optional day.
