About the role#
The Peer Student Success Coach supports undergraduate students by providing holistic guidance and mentorship. You will manage an individual caseload to help students navigate campus resources and foster a sense of belonging. This role involves working closely with the Associate Director of Student Success Operations to implement coaching services and support university retention goals.
What you'll do#
- Provide individual and group coaching sessions focused on goal setting, academic pathways, and financial planning.
- Develop Thrive Plans with students to support their overall well-being and success.
- Act as a concierge and advocate for students to help resolve issues across university offices.
- Maintain accurate records, appointment scheduling, and session notes.
- Track student referrals and resolutions on a weekly basis.
- Co-lead monthly Student Support Circles and workshops.
- Represent the Office of Student Success at university events, including occasional weekends.
- Manage administrative tasks, including taking meeting minutes for STAR and Eagle Eye sessions.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a graduate program at American University.
- A Bachelor’s degree.
- 1-3 years of relevant student-facing leadership experience.
- Strong organizational, time management, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel for spreadsheet maintenance.
- Experience with technology systems such as Canvas and CRMs.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and cultures.
- A strong academic record and commitment to student success.
- Experience in academic advising, mentoring, or tutoring is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Washington, DC (On-site).
- Schedule: Part-time, 20 hours per week.
- Compensation: $22.00 per hour.
- Eligibility: This position is open only to currently enrolled American University students.
