About the role#
The Math Circle Assistant supports the DC Math Circle, a program for students in grades 5 through 8. This part-time role involves attending nine weekly sessions on Wednesday evenings. You will help manage the classroom environment and facilitate student engagement with mathematics.
What you'll do#
- Arrive by 6:00pm to set up furniture in DMTI 111.
- Greet students as they arrive for the session.
- Keep students on task during activities.
- Use leading questions to guide student learning.
- Alert the session leader when a student shares a valuable idea.
- Clean up the room after the session concludes.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a student at American University.
- A genuine interest in mathematics.
- An interest in working with children.
