About the role#
The Credit and Fraud Risk team at American Express manages risk across the entire customer lifecycle, including credit underwriting, fraud detection, and product development. As an intern, you will contribute to the development of predictive models and analytical solutions that inform key business decisions. You will use statistical, machine learning, and AI techniques to generate insights that support risk management and innovation.
What you'll do#
- Independently lead an analytical project or workstream from problem definition through final presentation.
- Query, analyze, and derive insights from large and complex datasets using SQL, Hive, and Python.
- Build, test, and evaluate predictive models using machine learning and statistical techniques.
- Translate ambiguous business challenges into structured analytical approaches and actionable recommendations.
- Partner with business stakeholders to understand objectives, align on solutions, and communicate key findings.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a Graduate or PhD degree program with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, or Artificial Intelligence.
- 3+ years of professional experience in analytics, data science, quantitative research, machine learning, or software engineering.
- Proficiency in Python and experience applying statistical, machine learning, or AI techniques.
- Experience working with large datasets using SQL, Hive, or similar technologies.
- Ability to work in the United States without company-provided visa sponsorship.
