About the role#
Finance Data Science and Analytics at American Express uses machine learning, artificial intelligence, and statistical techniques to guide decisions on growth, risk, and strategy. As an intern, you will work at the intersection of finance, business, and technology to develop predictive models and analytical frameworks. This role focuses on applying modeling capabilities to solve real-world business problems.
What you'll do#
- Query, transform, and analyze large datasets using SQL, Python, and related analytical tools.
- Build, test, and refine predictive models using statistical and machine learning techniques like regression, classification, clustering, and decision trees.
- Evaluate model performance, improve predictive accuracy, and document your modeling choices, assumptions, and rationale.
- Develop insights from model outputs and explain their implications for business strategy, risk management, financial planning, or operational decision-making.
- Create a final presentation that communicates the project purpose, modeling approach, key findings, and business impact.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a full-time graduate degree program in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Quantitative Finance, Artificial Intelligence, Physics, or a related quantitative field.
- Expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
- Experience through coursework, research, or previous internships involving predictive modeling, machine learning, statistical analysis, or applied data science.
- Ability to use programming and quantitative methods to solve ambiguous problems.
