About the role#
As a Transmission System Operator Intern, you will support the real-time operation of the American Electric Power transmission system. This role involves working under direct supervision to ensure system efficiency and safety. You will work on a 12-hour rotating shift schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays. This is a paid, on-site position located in Corpus Christi, Texas, for the Summer 2028 term.
What you'll do#
- Monitor and regulate system voltage levels and power flows.
- Coordinate real-time operations with the AEP Reliability Coordinator and neighboring utilities.
- Prepare basic switching orders for equipment maintenance, repair, and construction.
- Maintain logs of events, transactions, and station entry activity.
- Monitor weather information systems and report severe weather conditions.
- Observe the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
- Report malfunctions in relaying, metering, and communication facilities.
What you'll need#
- High School diploma.
- Current enrollment in at least a two-year technical degree program in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field.
- Minimum GPA of 2.7.
- Valid state driver's license.
- Ability to work at least 20 hours per week.
- Ability to work under pressure and communicate instructions clearly.
- Completion of the HireVue Dispatcher Worker Virtual Job Tryout assessment.
