About the role#
American Electric Power offers a 10 to 12 week paid internship program for students pursuing degrees in engineering. This role provides hands-on experience within the electric utility industry, allowing you to work alongside project teams and experienced engineers. You will contribute to real projects while developing your technical skills in a professional environment.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with project teams and engineers on the planning, design, and execution of enterprise resource projects.
- Engage in design reviews, training sessions, and constructability assessments to support safety and operational standards.
- Visit operational facilities to assist with inspections, tests, and to gain an understanding of power system operations.
- Develop and analyze databases, reports, cost estimates, and dashboards to support data-driven decision-making.
- Support documentation efforts and initiatives aimed at improving operational performance.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Completed at least your freshman year of college.
- A graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- This position is not eligible for sponsorship, OPT, or CPT.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site internship based in Roanoke, Virginia, and nearby areas.
- The role is full-time for a duration of 10 to 12 weeks.
- Pay ranges from $25.00 to $30.00 per hour, depending on education hours.
- A $1,500 monthly housing stipend is available for those relocating more than 45 miles from their home address.
