About the role#
American Electric Power offers a 10 to 12 week paid internship program for engineering students. This role provides hands-on experience within the electric utility sector. You will work alongside project teams and experienced engineers to support energy projects and operational initiatives.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with project teams on the planning, design, and execution of enterprise resource projects.
- Participate in design reviews, training sessions, and constructability assessments.
- Conduct field visits to operational facilities to assist with inspections, tests, and to learn about power system operations.
- Develop and analyze databases, reports, cost estimates, and dashboards.
- Support documentation for decision-making processes.
- Follow safety guidelines and standards in both office and field environments.
- Take on new challenges to expand your engineering skills.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program for Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering at an ABET-accredited school.
- Completion of at least your freshman year.
- A graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Ability and willingness to relocate for the summer.
- A 3.0 GPA is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are preferred.
- An interest in the electric utility sector, energy efficiency, and sustainability is preferred.
- Effective time management skills are preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Employment: Full-time.
- Compensation: Pay ranges from $25.00 to $30.00 per hour based on education hours.
- Housing: A $1,500 monthly stipend is available for those moving more than 45 miles from their home address.
- Sponsorship: This position is not eligible for sponsorship, OPT, or CPT.
