About the role#
American Electric Power is seeking a full-time, paid Communications & Marketing intern for Summer 2027. Based at our corporate headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, this 10-to-12-week program offers students hands-on experience working alongside communications professionals. You will contribute to projects that engage employees, strengthen customer relationships, and support our business strategy.
What you'll do#
- Write news releases, feature articles for the intranet and AEP.com, and marketing copy.
- Draft company-wide emails, web copy, and talking points for external stakeholders.
- Create content for social media and develop creative ideas to showcase our brand.
- Host and record podcasts.
- Write headlines, ad copy, and scripts while collaborating with the Creative Services team.
- Support executive communications and assist with corporate events and special projects.
- Learn about the energy industry through site visits, such as trips to power plants or line worker training schools.
What you'll need#
- Completion of a sophomore year of a bachelor’s degree in journalism, business, marketing, advertising, communications, public relations, or a related field by Summer 2027.
- A minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Strong writing and organizational skills with an attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with AP Style.
- Experience with Canva and Adobe programs is a plus, as is prior internship experience.
