About the role#
AFL is hiring an Engineering Co-Op for the Winter 2027 term. This role offers technical experience across design, development, applications, process, and quality engineering. You will work alongside senior engineers or managers and receive support through monthly meetings and mentorship. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position.
What you'll do#
- Research manufacturing process issues and provide input on solutions.
- Partner with Process Engineering teams to support production line improvements.
- Conduct time studies, map value streams, and validate process changes on the manufacturing floor.
- Analyze manufacturing data, process flows, and material routings to develop recommendations.
- Document and report your findings to management.
- Assist Development Engineers with product design and production.
- Design, develop, and build test fixtures with the Test Engineer to support fiber optic testing.
- Learn test procedures and work with technical associates to perform testing.
- Create CAD drawings or 3-D models of concept designs and submit them to suppliers for quotes.
- Troubleshoot product design and processing anomalies through fiber optic testing.
- Participate in fiber optic training sessions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor degree program for Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of Sophomore standing.
- A GPA of at least 2.75.
- Proficiency in MS Office, data analysis software, and CAD software.
- A willingness to learn and a detail-oriented approach.
