About the role#
The Aryeh Neier Fellowship is a two-year program created by the ACLU and Human Rights Watch to honor the legacy of Aryeh Neier. This fellowship provides an opportunity to work with both organizations on joint initiatives that strengthen respect for human rights in the United States. Fellows typically spend one year at each organization. You will begin this position in September 2027.
What you'll do#
- Monitor human rights developments and issues across the United States.
- Conduct field research to support program objectives.
- Draft reports and other materials regarding human rights conditions.
- Engage in advocacy to publicize and curtail human rights violations.
- Assist with the development of litigation strategies.
- Manage other tasks as required by the organizations.
What you'll need#
- A J.D. from a US law school, either as a recent graduate or granted by June 2027.
- Academic or work experience related to the protection of human rights and civil liberties in the United States.
- Ability to pass the bar exam before starting in September 2027 and eligibility to practice law in the US during the second year of the fellowship.
- Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to write and speak clearly and persuasively.
- Self-motivation and the ability to initiate and complete projects.
- A demonstrated commitment to human rights and justice.
- Proficiency in a language other than English is preferred.
