About the role#
As a Quality & Manufacturing Intern, you will support Zipline's production operations by focusing on either Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) or Manufacturing Quality Engineering (MQE). You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure the reliability and scalability of assembly lines for our autonomous logistics systems. This role involves direct participation in product lifecycles, from design and prototyping to high-volume production.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the planning, budgeting, design, procurement, commissioning, and validation of assembly lines and associated equipment.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, including manufacturing process flows, FMEA, work instructions, and training plans.
- Design fixtures for assembly and inspection, and propose automation strategies to improve manufacturing robustness.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions using tools such as 8D, 5 Why, and Fishbone diagrams.
- Support assembly line performance monitoring by tracking KPIs like first-pass yield and cost of quality.
- Assist in training operators and provide technical support for plant operations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Industrial Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or Mathematics.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software, with a preference for NX.
- Understanding of traditional and non-traditional manufacturing processes, such as machining, injection molding, sheet metal stamping, 3D printing, or PCBA manufacturing.
- Knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that is in a constant state of evolution.
