About the role#
As a Quality & Manufacturing Intern, you will support the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) and Manufacturing Quality Engineering (MQE) teams. You will contribute to the lifecycle of Zipline’s products, from early design and prototyping to high-volume production. This role involves maintaining assembly lines, designing equipment, ensuring product quality, and driving continuous improvement to scale our global operations.
What you'll do#
- Assist with Design for X (DfX) discussions with internal and external stakeholders for sub-assemblies.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, including manufacturing process flows, FMEA, and work instructions.
- Design fixtures for assembly and inspection, and propose automation strategies to improve manufacturing.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities to troubleshoot production issues.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for assembly line performance, such as yield and on-time delivery.
- Collaborate on continuous improvement projects to reduce costs and enhance quality.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate (at least second year completed), master's, or PhD program in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, or Mathematics.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (NX preferred) and the ability to read engineering drawings with GD&T.
- Understanding of traditional and non-traditional manufacturing processes, such as machining, injection molding, sheet metal stamping, 3D printing, and electromechanical assembly.
- Knowledge of problem-solving frameworks like 8D, FTA, and Pareto analysis.
- Familiarity with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, on-site internship based in South San Francisco, California.
- The term for this position is Summer 2027.
