About the role#
As a Quality & Manufacturing Intern, you will work within either the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) or Manufacturing Quality Engineering (MQE) teams. You will contribute to the assembly, testing, and quality assurance of Zipline's hardware. This role focuses on optimizing production efficiency, maintaining assembly line performance, and ensuring product reliability through rigorous engineering standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
What you'll do#
- Assist with Design for X (DfX) discussions for top-level assemblies and sub-assemblies with internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain essential process documentation, including manufacturing process flows, process FMEA, work instructions, and training plans.
- Design fixtures for assembly and inspection, and propose automation strategies to improve manufacturing robustness.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities to troubleshoot production issues.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators for assembly line performance, such as first-pass yield and delivery metrics.
- Assist in training operators and provide technical support for plant operations.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, or Mathematics.
- Must have completed at least the second year of undergraduate studies.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (NX preferred) and the ability to read engineering drawings with GD&T.
- Understanding of traditional and non-traditional manufacturing processes, such as machining, injection molding, sheet metal stamping, 3D printing, and PCBA manufacturing.
- Familiarity with problem-solving frameworks like 8D, FTA, and Pareto Analysis, as well as RCA/CAPA techniques.
- Understanding of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
