About the role#
As a Computational Physics Intern, you will work with the Systems Modeling Team to help architect our aircraft and logistics systems. You will translate technical questions into engineering problems and build tools that drive critical architectural and operational decisions. This role focuses on balancing accuracy with computational efficiency to optimize vehicle performance.
What you'll do#
- Develop computational tools to automate high-level design trades and optimizations.
- Improve the performance and flexibility of our simulation frameworks.
- Build physics-based models for aircraft performance simulations.
- Analyze test data to validate vehicle component models.
- Architect code tools to solve system-level problems.
What you'll need#
- A background in Physics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- A basic understanding of fundamental physics, including energy and power, heat transfer, electrical circuits, dynamics, fluids, and aerodynamics.
- Expertise in Matlab, Python, Julia, Rust, or similar languages.
- Proficiency in numerical methods.
- The ability to recognize tradeoffs in complex computational analysis frameworks.
- A drive for tackling challenging multidisciplinary problems.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship based on-site in South San Francisco, California.
- The term for this position is Summer 2027.
