About the role#
Xcimer Energy is offering a 12-week summer internship for students interested in inertial fusion energy. You will work at our headquarters in Denver, Colorado, alongside an industry expert mentor. This program focuses on real-world challenges related to building a commercial fusion energy power plant. You will contribute to the development of laser-driven hardware and software systems.
What you'll do#
Responsibilities vary based on your expertise and interests. You will contribute to tasks such as:
- Mechanical design and hardware development
- Mechanical and thermal analysis using finite element analysis
- Systems and manufacturing engineering
- Electrical engineering, specifically pulsed power
- Control systems engineering
- Computational and software engineering simulations
- Nuclear engineering
- Optical engineering
- Plasma physics
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor's, Master’s, or PhD program in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, nuclear engineering, or a related field.
- Experience applying technical skills outside of the classroom through extracurricular projects, laboratory research, volunteering, or prior internships.
- Proficiency in CAD software for 3D modeling and simulation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A genuine interest in fusion energy.
- Ability to work full-time on-site in Denver for the full 12-week program.
