About the role#
Xcimer Energy is seeking interns for a 12-week program focused on the development of laser-driven inertial fusion hardware and software. You will work at our headquarters in Denver, Colorado, alongside an industry expert mentor. This role involves tackling technical challenges in areas such as structures, optics, and pulsed power to support the deployment of commercial fusion energy power plants.
What you'll do#
Your specific tasks depend on your expertise and interests. You will contribute to projects including:
- Mechanical design and hardware development
- Mechanical and thermal analysis using finite element analysis
- Systems and manufacturing engineering
- Electrical engineering with a focus on pulsed power
- Control systems and computational engineering simulations
- Nuclear engineering, optical engineering, and plasma physics
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, nuclear engineering, or a related field
- Experience applying technical skills outside of the classroom, such as personal projects, lab research, or prior work
- Proficiency in CAD software for 3D modeling and simulation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A genuine interest in fusion energy

- This is a full-time, paid internship located on-site in Denver, Colorado.
- The program runs during Summer 2027.
- Candidates must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or lawfully admitted refugees or asylees.
