Respiratory Therapy Intern

About the role#

The Respiratory Therapy Intern program provides students with hands-on experience in an acute care setting. Interns work under the guidance of a designated preceptor and department manager to enhance clinical competence and gain exposure to the respiratory therapy field. This role involves direct patient care, data collection, and the completion of therapeutic interventions.

What you'll do#

• Provide information to registered respiratory therapists to help coordinate care for patients and families.
• Administer respiratory therapy modalities following physician orders, clinical practice guidelines, or clinical pathways.
• Assist with patient assessments and monitor condition levels, reporting any changes to the appropriate clinical staff.
• Perform selected procedures, such as ABG sampling, noninvasive BiPAP/CPAP setup, bronchopulmonary hygiene, and tracheostomy care, once competency is demonstrated.
• Manage equipment and supplies, ensuring they are functional, properly stored, and set up correctly.
• Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.
• No prior experience required.
