    About the role#

    This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027. You will work with the Systems Engineering team to refine how our vehicles interpret and navigate complex driving scenarios. This role is hybrid and based in Mountain View, California.

    What you'll do#

    • Calibrate and validate physical reachability and safety-margin metrics by comparing them against expert human evaluations to quantify proactive caution.
    • Analyze large-scale real-world and simulated driving logs to determine model accuracy, identify edge cases, and optimize performance trade-offs.
    • Work with cross-functional teams to integrate quantitative safety signals into our automated event triage and release-readiness workflows.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
    • Proficiency in Python or C++.
    • Experience analyzing, wrangling, and visualizing large-scale datasets.
    • Demonstrated ability to use analytical and statistical skills to validate quantitative models.
    • A solid foundation in machine learning and statistical evaluation fundamentals.
    • Familiarity with SQL, autonomous vehicles, robotics, crash safety analysis, or human driving behavior modeling is preferred.
    • Experience with rare-event modeling, anomaly detection, or highly imbalanced datasets is also a plus.

    • Location: Mountain View, California (Hybrid).
    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Compensation: $70 per hour for Master's students and $85 per hour for PhD students.
