About the role#
The Human Behavior Analytics team focuses on computational models for road user behavior. We develop tools to evaluate the safety of the Waymo Driver. This work sits at the intersection of AI, machine learning, and cognitive science. You will work alongside our research, engineering, and data science teams to build models that inform our safety standards.
What you'll do#
- Survey current research in digital neuroscience, cognitive science, and mechanistic interpretability.
- Build models that represent specific human driving behaviors, such as collision avoidance, road user interactions, or visual behavior.
- Test and demonstrate methods to interpret and explain the internal mechanisms of these models.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a PhD program.
- Research background and expertise in cognitive science or neuroscience.
- Proficiency in contemporary AI and machine learning.
- Strong computational skills in mathematics and coding.
- Experience with mechanistic interpretability research is preferred.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
- The role is based in Mountain View, California, with a hybrid, on-site work schedule.
- Compensation is $85 per hour.
