About the role#
This internship is with the Predictive Planning team. You will work on developing machine learning solutions that predict the future state of the world and plan the behavior of the Waymo Driver. You will partner with industry leaders on projects that impact our autonomous driving technology.
What you'll do#
- Research, implement, and evaluate models for planning and predictions.
- Analyze results in both open-loop and closed-loop environments.
- Conduct machine learning experiments using JAX and Python.
- Collaborate with team members and present your insights clearly.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related field.
- Experience with Transformers architecture and reinforcement learning.
- Hands-on experience with deep learning libraries like TensorFlow, JAX, or PyTorch.
- Basic programming skills in Python.
- Strong analytical and debugging skills.
- We prefer candidates with publications in top-tier machine learning or robotics conferences.
- Prior research or software development industry experience is a plus.
- Background knowledge in the AV industry, specifically regarding behavior-related research, is helpful.

- This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
- The role is based in Mountain View, California.
- This position follows a hybrid work model.
