About the role#
This internship focuses on the ML Data Flywheel. You will join a team responsible for the end-to-end integration and evaluation of data systems that help develop the Waymo Driver. You will work on projects that apply your existing knowledge while providing opportunities to build new technical skills.
What you'll do#
- Develop and scale ML pipelines to process telemetry data and discover rare driving interactions.
- Benchmark and validate findings to separate meaningful patterns from noise.
- Integrate pipelines to turn discovered patterns into concrete, testable artifacts to verify system improvements.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a graduate degree (Master's or PhD) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong software engineering skills in Python or C++.
- Experience writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
- Proven experience building and operating data or ML pipelines on large-scale datasets.
- A solid foundation in applied machine learning, statistics, and evaluation methodology.
- Experience with distributed compute systems, data processing frameworks, or large-scale data lakes.
- Familiarity with unsupervised learning, outlier or anomaly detection, multimodal embeddings, or LLM/VLM-based evaluation and data filtering.
- A track record of turning ambiguous, open-ended problem statements into practical software systems.
- Prior research or project experience in autonomous driving, robotics, or spatial-temporal data analysis.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
- The role is based in Mountain View, California.
- The work modality is hybrid and on-site.
- Compensation is $70 per hour for Master's students and $85 per hour for PhD students.
