About the role#
VU Student Mentors act as guides for high school sophomores and juniors in the VU Mentorship Program. You will help students explore career pathways, set goals, and prepare for college. Mentors use the PREPP Approach to support students throughout the academic year.
What you'll do#
- Complete PREPP Approach training and refresher sessions.
- Build supportive relationships with your assigned mentees.
- Conduct monthly mentoring sessions lasting 1 to 2 hours at partner high schools.
- Guide students through the PREPP stages of Plan, Research, Evaluate, Prepare, and Place.
- Help students identify their academic and career goals.
- Track student progress and document session details.
- Attend check-ins and feedback meetings.
- Participate in orientation and training events.
- Represent Vincennes University as an ambassador at partner schools.
- Communicate with program staff and high school contacts while maintaining confidentiality.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a Vincennes University student in good academic standing.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Dependability and organizational habits.
- Ability to commit to the role for the full academic year.
- Interest in leadership, service, or education.
- Willingness to travel to local high schools.
