Veterinary Emergency Services (VES) - DVM/VMD Extern

About the role#

Veterinary Emergency Services (VES) offers a clinical externship for veterinary students interested in urgent care and emergency medicine. As the primary after-hours care provider in the Shenandoah Valley, this practice provides exposure to critical care in a collaborative, supportive environment. Externs will work alongside an experienced team of veterinarians and support staff to manage cases during evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.

What you'll do#

• Assist in providing urgent care and emergency services for small animals.
• Gain hands-on experience with emergency surgical procedures.
• Support hospital operations during after-hours shifts.
• Collaborate with the veterinary team on effective case management.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary school (VMD or DVM degree path).
• A strong interest in building clinical skills in urgent care and emergency medicine.
• Readiness to engage with mentorship and contribute to a team-based environment.
