DVM/VMD Extern

About the role#

Hollymead Veterinary Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia, offers a hands-on externship for veterinary students. This role provides an opportunity to work within a collaborative, team-oriented environment that balances general practice with emergency and urgent care services. Externs gain exposure to a range of clinical cases while working alongside experienced professionals in a facility equipped with a full surgery suite, digital radiography, and ultrasound capabilities.

What you'll do#

• Support veterinary professionals in providing comprehensive patient care.
• Engage in hands-on training and clinical mentorship.
• Participate in clinical decision-making processes.
• Assist with emergency surgeries and urgent care medicine.
• Utilize in-house lab capabilities and diagnostic ultrasound equipment.
• Collaborate with Fear Free certified professionals to maintain high standards of patient care.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary school pursuing a DVM or VMD degree.
• A desire to gain experience in emergency medicine and surgical procedures.
• Interest in working within a collaborative, multi-doctor practice environment.
