About the role#
As a Flight Software Intern, you will contribute to the software powering Varda’s missions. You will work across ground systems, flight software, and embedded platforms. This role is based in El Segundo, California, and runs between January and May 2027. We are looking for students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
What you'll do#
- Build Python and C++ tools, services, and libraries that interface with flight and ground systems.
- Contribute to automation for simulation, hardware-in-the-loop, and scenario-based testing.
- Use first-principles reasoning to approach complex engineering problems and justify design tradeoffs.
- Debug issues that cross abstraction boundaries, including OS behavior, networking, and hardware-software interactions.
- Collaborate with teams across flight software, embedded systems, and mission operations.
What you'll need#
- Proficiency in C++.
- Experience working with embedded systems or microcontrollers.
- A solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms.
- The ability to debug complex software issues.
- Comfort working in Linux environments.
