Public Policy & Community Affairs Intern

About the role#

Vannevar Labs is seeking a Public Policy & Community Affairs Intern based on O‘ahu to join the Government Relations team. This role supports engagement efforts across Hawaiʻi and the Indo-Pacific region, working closely with the Director of Government Relations and the broader Public Policy & Strategy team. The position focuses on strengthening relationships with policymakers, industry associations, and community organizations to ensure consistent engagement across government, academia, and civil society.

What you'll do#

• Build and maintain relationships with state and local officials, congressional offices, and relevant public agencies.
• Conduct stakeholder mapping, coordinate meetings, and prepare briefings and follow-ups.
• Partner with industry associations, chambers of commerce, and innovation networks to advance shared priorities.
• Represent the company at community-led events, panels, and roundtables.
• Engage with community organizations and nonprofits to identify opportunities for listening sessions and site visits.
• Track policy initiatives, economic development, and funding opportunities related to technology, resilience, and regional security.
• Synthesize research into actionable memos for internal teams.
• Provide operational support, including scheduling, event logistics, and administrative coordination.

What you'll need#

• Demonstrated interest in public policy, government relations, community affairs, or civic engagement.
• Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
• Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to operate independently and proactively in a lightly structured environment.
• Familiarity with the policy and community landscape in Hawaiʻi.
• U.S. citizenship.
