About the role#
Vannevar Labs is seeking a Public Policy & Community Affairs Intern based on O‘ahu to join our Government Relations team. This position supports our engagement efforts across Hawaiʻi and the broader Indo-Pacific region. You will work closely with the Director of Government Relations and the Public Policy & Strategy team to strengthen relationships with policymakers, community organizations, and industry associations. This role is designed to expand our local presence and ensure consistent, high-quality engagement with stakeholders across government, academia, and civil society.
What you'll do#
- Build and maintain relationships with state and local officials, congressional offices, and public agencies.
- Conduct stakeholder mapping, coordinate meetings, prepare briefings, and manage follow-up activities.
- Partner with industry associations, chambers of commerce, and innovation networks.
- Represent the company at community-led events, panels, and roundtables to identify opportunities for collaboration.
- Assist in building relationships with nonprofits and local leaders to support community-informed programming.
- Track policy initiatives related to technology, resilience, workforce development, and regional security, synthesizing findings into actionable memos.
- Act as a bridge between on-island Government Relations and internal mission teams to align on messaging and goals.
- Provide operational support, including event logistics, scheduling, and note-taking.
What you'll need#
- Demonstrated interest in public policy, government relations, community affairs, or civic engagement through internships, campus work, or community leadership.
- Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
- Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to operate independently and proactively in a lightly structured environment.
- Familiarity with the policy and community landscape in Hawaiʻi.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
