About the role#
Valvoline Global is seeking a Mechanical Lab Intern to join the team at the Ashland Automotive Propulsion Laboratory. This role offers hands-on experience in an automotive testing environment focused on internal combustion engines, powertrain components, and vehicle-level testing. You will work alongside engineers and technicians to support research and development projects that drive innovation in lubricant performance.
What you'll do#
- Assist technicians and engineers with maintenance, repairs, and system installations.
- Help design and set up testing components and mechanical assemblies.
- Support the setup, calibration, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
- Participate in hands-on problem-solving and diagnostics across test environments.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including maintenance logs, test data, and technical observations.
- Provide general technical support within the lab.
- Follow all safety protocols and company procedures.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and tools.
- Familiarity with measurement tools like calipers and micrometers.
- Experience or interest in 3D CAD modeling, 3D printing, or data acquisition systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and general computer use.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Solid problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, walk, climb, and stand for extended periods.
