About the role#
Utah Retirement Systems is seeking an Investment Analyst Intern to support our investment teams. This role involves working across public and private markets to manage a pension plan valued at over $40 billion. You will act as an extension of our team, contributing to real investment issues and learning about institutional investment strategies. This is a temporary position with a flexible schedule, either up to 29 hours per week for one year or up to 40 hours per week for six months.
What you'll do#
- Provide due diligence support by gathering information, organizing data, and participating in meetings and calls.
- Compile materials for Investment Committee presentations.
- Define project scopes and objectives alongside the investment team.
- Conduct research on market activity, portfolio sensitivity, and market innovations.
- Prepare research papers and analysis to support portfolio solutions.
- Produce accurate reports for the investment department.
- Submit a record of security transactions to the Compliance Officer.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and promote cooperation among staff and outside advisers.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Competence with basic investment and portfolio management concepts.
- Introductory knowledge of Microsoft Office, Access, Visual Basic, SQL, and Bloomberg.
- Working knowledge of accounting and auditing principles.
- Familiarity with financial theory, statistical measures, investment performance metrics, and risk analysis.
- Ability to work independently and within a team, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- High integrity and sound judgment.

- This position is located on-site in Salt Lake City, Utah.
- This is a paid internship.
- Graduate degree candidates are preferred.
