    About the role#

    The University of Virginia is hiring students for the UVA Ride and UVA FlexRide programs within the Department of Parking and Transportation. UVA Ride drivers provide overnight shuttle services for students and staff. UVA FlexRide drivers provide curb-to-curb transportation for community members who cannot use fixed-route services due to a disability. You may indicate your program preference during the interview process.

    What you'll do#

    • Operate vans and fleet vehicles using defensive driving principles.
    • Follow UVA Transportation procedures and comply with DMV and transportation regulations.
    • Receive ride requests via a department-issued mobile device.
    • Document passenger pick-ups and drop-offs and maintain accurate logs.
    • Report any issues that affect safe vehicle operation.
    • For FlexRide: Assist passengers with boarding and exiting, including the securement and deployment of mobility devices.

    What you'll need#

    • Current undergraduate status at UVA.
    • A valid Virginia Driver's License with a safe driving record (-3 DMV point balance or above).
    • Ability to drive all vans and support vehicles in the fleet.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and use a two-way radio.
    • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
    • Basic computer skills, including email and web-based systems for payroll and performance management.
    • Ability to lift and maneuver mobility devices weighing up to 50 lbs.

    • Location: Charlottesville, Virginia.
    • Work modality: On-site.
    • Employment type: Part-time.
    • Term: Rolling.
    • Compensation: $19 per hour, plus applicable shift differentials.
    • Requirements: Pre-employment drug screening and DMV license check are required.
