About the role#
The Teaching Kitchen Assistant supports Hoo’s Cooking nutrition and culinary classes at the Student Health and Wellness Teaching Kitchen. You will work with the Senior Nutrition Educator and other student staff to keep classes running from setup to cleanup. This role offers experience in leadership, food safety, and culinary production.
What you'll do#
- Set up equipment and prepare ingredients before classes begin.
- Manage attendance and help supervise participants during sessions.
- Coach participants as they learn new cooking skills.
- Wash dishes, wipe down tables, and perform general cleanup after each class.
- Pack and label leftovers for proper storage.
What you'll need#
- You must have participated in at least one Hoo’s Cooking class.
- Basic cooking skills and a focus on kitchen safety.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- The physical ability to move food, dishes, and equipment around the kitchen.
- A proactive attitude and the ability to work well with others.
Location & details#
- Location: Charlottesville, Virginia.
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Commitment: 3 to 9 hours per week, with 3-hour shifts occurring primarily on weekday evenings.
- This is a paid, on-site, part-time position.
