About the role#
The Department of Astronomy is hiring a part-time Office and Public Outreach Administrative Assistant. This role supports the Dark Skies, Bright Kids semester clubs. You will split your time between general office tasks and public outreach programs at local elementary schools.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the Dark Skies, Bright Kids semester clubs.
- Perform office tasks using standard equipment like computers, fax machines, and copiers.
- Support public outreach programs at local elementary schools, with transportation provided by the department.
- Lift and move totes of supplies for astronomy clubs.
What you'll need#
- Current Federal Work Study eligibility as a UVA student.
- A strong interest in working in a school environment.
- Ability to work a consistent weekly schedule.
- A submitted resume.
- Previous experience working with elementary age children is preferred but not required.
- No prior knowledge of astronomy or science is necessary.

- Location: Charlottesville, Virginia.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Part-time, August 25, 2026, through May 14, 2027.
- Compensation: $15 per hour.
- Note: This position requires a background check.
