About the role#
The University of Virginia is hiring Intramural Sports Officials and Intramural Sport Supervisors. These positions support the campus recreation program by managing contests and ensuring facility safety. This is a paid, on-site, student-wage role with rolling start dates.
What you'll do#
Both roles involve setting up venues, overseeing contests, and storing equipment after activities. You will ensure that participation remains safe and enforce rules during games.
Officials focus on game management, including:
- Officiating contests and enforcing rules.
- Verifying team eligibility and assisting with sign-ups.
- Reporting fouls and completing scoresheets.
- Securing facilities after activities conclude.
Supervisors provide additional oversight, including:
- Assigning officials to specific fields or courts.
- Completing online daily reports.
- Diffusing issues with participants, coaches, or spectators.
- Providing training and support for officials.
- Assisting with program promotion and evaluations.
What you'll need#
- You must be a currently enrolled student at the University of Virginia.
- Good interpersonal skills to relate with peers.
- Ability to attend all mandatory trainings and meetings.
- Officials must work at least 5 hours per week.
- Supervisors must work at least 10 hours per week and show a willingness to become certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid.
- Relevant majors include Business Administration, Kinesiology, Psychology, and Communications.
Location & details#
Work occurs on-site at various campus facilities, including the Aquatic & Fitness Center, Slaughter Recreation Center, Memorial Gymnasium, Snyder Tennis Courts, Nameless Field, and The Park. This is an active role that involves mobility and light lifting.
