About the role#
The Fine Arts Library is looking for undergraduate students to join our team for the 2026-2027 academic year. You will provide front-line customer service and support circulation services for our collections in architecture, art history, archaeology, and the classics. This position requires reliability and the ability to work independently at our Information and Services Desk.
What you'll do#
- Assist patrons with checking out, discharging, and renewing library materials.
- Help patrons find items in the stacks and retrieve books as needed.
- Answer basic questions regarding library policies, directions, and circulation.
- Provide support for printers and other library technology.
- Record statistics and question types using library software.
- Help open or close the library facility.
- Perform occasional shelving and search for lost items.
- Maintain an orderly environment and complete special projects as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a UVA undergraduate student with at least 12 credit hours.
- Federal Work-Study eligibility.
- Ability to learn the Library of Congress call number system.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to helping others.
- Proficiency with standard office programs and data entry.
- Ability to follow library guidelines and work independently.
- Dependability and a commitment to maintaining a welcoming environment.
Location & details#
- Location: Charlottesville, Virginia.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: August 25, 2026, through May 14, 2027.
- Commitment: Minimum of 6 hours per week, with a maximum of 20 hours per week. Availability during weekends and exam periods is required.
